Five Million Dead and Counting assignment

  • What events led to the outbreak of war in DR Congo ?
Thousands of civilians in the Democratic Republic of Congo have fled their homes and are living in desperate conditions following the latest outbreak in violence in the eastern part of the country.

  • How many have died in this war ? Over what time frame has the deaths take place? What countries and ethnic groups are involved?
More than 5 million people have died in this D.R.C war. The time frame that this event has taken place is in June 2007. The countries and ethnic groups that were involved in this war was Zaire, Uganda, and the Peacekeepers .

  • What do you think can happen to stop the war in Congo?
I think in order to stop this war is for both countries to under stand that violence is the last thing that people need on their minds. Also, that the people of Uganda are hurting children and women also. There seems to be no heart in their souls right about now. They seemed to be brain washed as to what they are doing. They wonder why the Peacekeepers are there in the first place. At least some group of people are thinking for them since they can't think for themselves

Advisory Period Work

One positive thing that I can reflect on is I gave my friend Indigo and I Best Friend ring watches. Now we call ourselves "BFFFLB's". This stands for " Best- Female- Friends- For -Life-Buddies". Indigo and I have known each other for 3 years. We have been BFFFLB's for all 3 of those years. Now I think the ringwathes represent our permanent friendship.

  1. What factors lead to the genocide in Rawanda in 1994 ?

The Tutsi was known to be the aristocracy of the Rwanda because they took over the Hutus. The Hutus were known to be the peasants of  the Tutsi. Altough Hutus were most of the population, most of them stopped power and reversed the roles of these two tribes by using violence. Killing and torturing the Tutsi.

Between April and June 1994 , an estimate of 800,000 Rawandans killed. This was done in the time of 100 days. The Hutu's killed mostly Tutsis. The Hutu also killed some of their own people.

3.What were some of the after effects of the genocide ?

Rawanda is now lead by the Tutsi. They want to wipe out the Hutu. The Tutsi have had a group that kills the Hutu. Not even the best peacekeeping group in the world can help them stop this madness . Some tutsi were left behind on the Hutu mercy. Noone was able to help them.
